On 23 June, while on holiday in Spain, Alastair suffered a spinal stroke that has left him paralysed from the chest down. Alastair remained in hospital in Spain for 4 weeks before returning to the UK and spending a further 2 months at the National Spinal Injury Unit in Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire. On 1 September Alastair returned home to Northern Ireland and resumed school at Bangor Grammar on 5 September. On his return from Spain we embarked on a fundraising effort on behalf of Alastair to assist with his rehabilitation and to raise awareness of Alastair's condition. Countless people came forward offering help to Alastair and we were overwhelmed with the generosity of those who supported our campaign. Our original campaign raised over £28,000 for Alastair and helped considerably in raising awareness of Alastair's condition with people from the UK, the USA, Australia and all over Ireland contacting us to express their support and to tell us about their own experiences of suffering a similar injury. Despite our original campaign closing at the beginning of October offers of support are still forthcoming, we are still receiving donations, and a number of people have asked that we continue to update everyone on his progress. I am therefore creating a second campaign page again with the aim of helping Alastair and documenting his progress.
