Story
Hi, my name is Alex Paterson, I am 56 year old left arm amputee after a motorcycle accident in 1978. Recently I have been undergoing testing and training at the Royal Free Hospital and on the 12th December I am having pioneering surgery called TMR (targeted muscle reinventing) where harvested nerves are moved back into the spine and therefore opening lost pathways so the mind communicates with the lost limb, this allows the use of MYO electric limbs to function with thoughts alone.
And that's where the issues arise. NHS England won't provide funding for the rehabilitation after the surgery, and I have to fund this myself, the costs are approx £6000, and this would cover a twelve month program, which would conclude in the build of a new Prosthetic @ Roehampton and Bristol, this part should be funded by NHS England by a IFR request.
This will radically change my life, but will only happen if we can raise the funds accordingly and I really hope you can help no matter how little that may be.
Thank you all very much and I will update this site when things progress.

7 years agoWe were at the rehab centre again today, twelve weeks post surgery, and great news that all the mayo sites and reinervated muscles are now communicating with my brain, and we managed to context via a laptop and we had some control over the bionics. It all very weak yet and very early into the rehab, but it's clearly working and all very exciting. Lots of exercises and training to get on with before we see them again, I will keep you all updated. Thanks for everyone's support.

7 years agoHi everyone., I have been to start the re-Hab today at Burton on Trent, it was very interesting and we have now agreed when it will start and who is going to complete what function. They have agreed the build process and what components will be required. We also visited Bristol Enablenent Cenre last Friday and we have started the build of the Motorcycle arm and if all goes well we should be up and riding by March. If my healing goes to plan, the Myo re-Hab and limb build should start in the summer and will conclude near the end of this year.
