    Story

(ALEX & I) The isolation of eating disorders.

Our bodies differ greatly around the world and we all look different, from height, race, weight and beauty standards. There, however, are no borders to eating disorders. My older sister Alex, suffers from a genetic disorder called Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), the sufferer is never full and is consequently continuously starving, won't stop eating and is often dangerously obese. There is no cure. Growing up we had to lock the fridge to help Alex. Despite this and having the choice, I like many young woman, want to be thinner and restrict what I eat.

But each body is beautiful in its ability to be a transportation system and to go and do wonderful things! I want to use photography to capture the beauty and the juxtaposition between bodies to celebrate and start a dialogue on our global differences and similarities while confronting assumptions.

PWS and other eating disorders exist globally yet sufferers often feel isolated. There are few links that bring the huge range of global eating disorders and other disabilities worldwide together. I have taken this term off from university and instead of working on my own career in art I want to pursue this long running idea, partly due to growing up with a sister with PWS but also to document sufferers of all eating disorders from around the world and to celebrate all our bodies.

I want to raise money to reach as many PWS sufferers as I can in the UK and globally from January to March with an exhibition as an outcome. I am a studio art major equipped with an trusty film camera and ready to go far and wide, to the diverse community of sufferers of eating disorders, who want to be photographed. If you want to participate or offer accommodation abroad, please get in touch.

Alex and I are eternally grateful for your involvement.

Dear all, your kindness has been moving beyond belief. Last week I heard an amazing women of 60 with PWS who I had photographed in Munich had passed away. It was thanks to all your generosity and encouragement that I started the project there. As upsetting as it is I'm touched I had the chance to capture her beauty. Further inspired by her joy and energy,I am still working on the project and trying to balance my artistic vision and how to have the greatest impact with this important dialogue, the goal: a exhibition late Aug. Thank you eternally
