Story
Venerable Canda, a British Buddhist nun trained in Myanmar and Australia, founded Anukampa Bhikkhuni Project in 2016, at the request of her Teacher Ajahn Brahm who serves as the Charity's Spiritual Advisor.
Anukampa means the wise compassion that alleviates suffering and it's cause: the quality that motivated the Buddha to teach the Dhamma.
Anukampa's aims are to spread the Buddha's teachings and to develop a monastery where, for the first time in the UK, women can train toward full bhikkhuni ordination and Enlightenment.
Over the years a diverse and dedicated spiritual community has developed around these aims - and the Charity recently found a property to become "Anukampa Grove Bhikkhuni Monastery." Located on Boar's Hill, only 5 miles from Oxford, Anukampa Grove is surrounded by peaceful woodland.
In anticipation of this momentous step and to bring inspiration to all who visit and reside there, we are wishing to provide this Buddha statue.
This is what Venerable Canda says about the statue:
"This elegant marble Buddharupa from Myanmar resonates deeply with me, bearing a striking resemblance to the one in the tropical grounds of my ordination monastery, where I spent many happy years. If my good friends' efforts are successful, this Buddharupa would sit in the main Danasala (the monastic dining and visitors' meeting room) of Britains first bhikkhuni monastery, for all to enjoy. We are extremely grateful to those involved in this merit-making gift!"
