    Story

The village of Bimiri is around 52km east of Kathmandu, Nepal.

The locals there are some of the friendliest most welcoming people one could ever hope to meet. For the last few years I have been visiting this village and seeing how difficult life can be there.

The current water situation in the village is far from ideal. There is no running water anywhere (yet) so the villagers must walk to the nearest water source, around 40 minutes away, and carry the water back, sometimes carrying around 30-40 litres of water at a time, as can be seen in the cover photo on this page.

On my last trip to the village I met with a well builder and he came with us to the village to find a suitable place a well can be dug, we have found the spot not too far from the village at all, from where we can pump the water directly to a 10,000 litre tank already in place in the village square, which was provided some time ago by another fund raising project which left the job half done.

Providing fresh water isn't just about cutting out the amount of time these villagers are having to walk to their drinking water supply, once the water supply is in abundance the villagers will not have to wait until monsoon before growing the crops they farm for their income as well as sustenance . They will also be able to keep different animals, a water buffalo for example requires far more water than the average villager can currently provide it, however also provides a much needed boost to the income of the home through the sale of milk and breeding.

There are a lot charities out there telling you that for £2 a month you can make a difference to someone's life somewhere, maybe they're right and by donating you can make a difference to someone, but those same organisations also have huge costs involved which your money is going to too. Every penny from the crowdfunder will be going directly to the funding of this well, anything spare will go on something else the village may require.
