Blue class (24 students) has decided to choose Essex Search and Rescue team as the charity we are going to raise money for over the next 17 weeks. We hope to raise as much as we possibly can both through this page and a variety of other activities. At the end of our course we will provide the Essex SAR with a cheque of the total money raised, which will help to provide equipment and training for the much-needed team. Every donation counts and would be put to very good use, helping them to continue their hard work.

So what is Essex SAR? They are a voluntary lead team of individuals that are readily available to assist the police in the searching for missing vulnerable persons. This is at any time both day and night, whatever the weather. They provide a variety of specialties that can help and reduce the time an individual is found. These include; K9 unit, Bike team, water team and a ground search team.

One of the reasons the class decided upon the charity was a remarkable story from one of the class students. He volunteered with a neighbor SAR team to Essex and had managed to find an elderly woman that had been reported as missing. She was found in a critical condition and had fallen in a ditch. The ditch was water logged and full of nettles. If he and his team had not managed to find her in the time frame they did, it would have been a totally different story. All I have to do is think of my nana, or any of my family and friends for that matter and would hope that there would be a team of professionals who would help find them if anything did happen.
