Powys County Council have designated over 30% of our uplands as Local Search Areas for wind and solar energy development. This is an open door to the developers. The Council Cabinet submitted the Local Development Plan to the Planning Inspector for examination with minimal consultation in the face of fierce public opposition and prevented any debate of the LDP by all councillors in a full Council meeting. Although the LDP team are making some changes to proposed Local Search Areas now, it is clear from Council’s own press release that these adjustments don’t address residents’ many concerns.
This group has been formed to raise awareness of how these Local Search Areas will affect the residents of Powys. We need to inform people who live in isolated parts of this peaceful rural landscape what awaits them if the Council and the Welsh Assembly get their way. Please help us to spread the word.
We need to print leaflets and banners to alert our friends and neighbours to the threat to their health, their peace of mind, the environment, wildlife and property values.
Powys relies on tourism for much of its economy and no matter what the developers say tourists do not want to visit an industrialised landscape.
