Nicky Asbury was a lovely Mum who stood beside us all, cheering on her beautiful boys on the rugby pitch. Her family described her as an inspiring, warm, intelligent and vibrant woman who lived life to the full. She developed the rare, poorly known but deadly disease, lieomyosarcoma of the uterus (a fibroid gone rogue). Despite surgery and chemotherapies she died on 1st July 2016. Her husband, Mark and three children are raising money to fund half the cost of a 3 year PhD fellowship which will be match funded by Newcastle University. Through researching this 'orphan' cancer, and raising it's profile, the diagnosis and outcomes may be improved in the future and more children will keep their Mum's for longer.
