The Class 60 Preservation Group is a British Organisation that is dedicated to the preservation and operation of a working example of the Class 60 “Tugs” Locomotives for the public to enjoy. We also want to help promote the interest and history in our industrial rail heritage.

The Class 60 Preservation Group is a non profit organisation with all money raised being put back into the locomotives restoration, maintenance and running to preserve it for future generations.

With an uncertain future for the class especially the locomotives sat at Toton in their sidings and scrap line, a group of enthusiasts have come together to with the aim of preserving a member of the class, saving it from the cutters choice and the Class 60 Preservation Group was formed.

Within the group we aim to have the locomotive restored in full mainline condition so it can be used to haul passengers across the country on rail tours to share the importance of the last locomotives ordered and commissioned by British Rail before the privatisation of the railways. We also aim to develop and a dual mode braking system for the locomotive as currently they run solely on air brakes, this would mean that having the dual brake system the locomotive can haul both air and vacuum braked stock as the majority of heritage railways use vacuumed brake rolling stock and therefore means it can run with all marks of carriages without any issues.

Our aim for the locomotive if for it to be fully restored and back on the heritage scene within the next 2-3 years depending on funding and parts availability.
