Story
Diaspora led Ethiopian Youth E-mentoring and Enterprise project is set to provide disadvantaged youth with opportunities to help achieve their potential.
Vision: We aim to enable disadvantaged youth to be skilled and economically active in their home country rather than resorting to illegal migration and suffering devastating consequences in the process.
Inspiration: 2016 was termed as the deadliest year for migrants and refugees crossing the Mediterranean to Europe.
So, we ask ourselves how can we help Ethiopian youth from embarking such perilous ventures? Can we possibly offer them better alternatives? The African Diaspora in Europe and the USA holds huge untapped resources of knowledge, skills, experiences and expertise. If we coordinate these resources with governments, international NGOs, and the private sector, we believe that we can make a great impact on the development of Ethiopian youth in their own homeland.
Strategy:
➢ engage, enable and empower Diaspora communities to build the capacity of vulnerable youth in Ethiopia
➢ provide opportunities for disadvantaged youth to acquire knowledge and skill, so they can be economically active in their home country
➢ promote accountability of the diaspora community to commit to the vulnerable youth back home –accountability of the youth to community development & enterprise,
-accountability of community and leaders for the forging of safe and cohesive society in the country.
Method:
➢ An innovative approach to skill and knowledge sharing (Eg. Diaspora led Youth e-mentoring: volunteers from the diaspora are trained to mentor disadvantaged youth in Ethiopia via text messages, phone, chats or webinars on the e-mentoring platform).
➢ Promotes values such as entrepreneurship, community work volunteering,
➢ Create a wide network of civil society groups, private sector, non- government and to broaden resources available.
➢ Promotes social enterprise by providing skills and micro-finance

7 years agoDear Supporters; Just to let you know that your contribution is important. 50usd enables a young person to use our e-mentoring platform where he/she can have one-to-one mentor, webinar and access resources for 6 months. This will help them acquire knowledge, skills and opportunities to plan for future careers, and prosper. With a population of over 100 million, human capacity is one of Ethiopia's best resources. We the Diaspora have the means to help them get opportunities to be productive! Let us be change makers.
