    Story

The Aurora Foundation is a not for profit organisation that support projects in the UK and abroad which will benefit our students and staff and will provide opportunities for under privileged groups.
Our first venture is working with Dream Big Ghana (www.dreambigghana.org.uk) which has successfully introduced compost toilets to the Volta region of Ghana. They have so far built 60 toilets in the neighbouring villages and would like to follow this with supporting the education provision in this region.

We are trying to support the education needs of the local village. We already have a building and have donated funds to put the roof on and give them a teacher (teacher salary is £2,000 a year). The education centre is due to open in March and we are going over there to have a grand opening. The only difficulty is that at the moment we have no equipment or furniture in it at all, it is just a shell.

This is where you come in, we are looking for donations, any amount from £10 - £10,000, for educational equipment and resources – all the money will go on the resources and you can say what you would like us to purchase. We would name any areas in recognition of the donations we get – so could have the swimming area in the lagoon or the volley ball court or classroom name after a sponsor, or even a library shelf or a laptop.

It is a great cause and you just have to look at the children’s faces to see the impact any small improvement will make. To give you some idea of the level of poverty in the country, the average family survives on less than 70p a day most do not have sanitation or running water, class sizes are up to 60 if you can find a school, infant mortality is still very high and the percentage of girl’s educated is still in the low teens. We are just trying to support this charity to get their education provision going in the community.
