Story
We are trying to raise money for Ronald ian Davies, an ex serviceman in the RAF who was on holiday in Corfu with me, and my family. while there Ron suffered a life changing stroke while away.
Ron is 59 years old and, as far as I'm aware, has no immediate family. He always puts people first, Even people he hardly knew.
I'd seen something special in Ron. A person that was always there to help others and expects nothing in return.
Ron currently works as a service engineer for a company that supplies medical equipment (bed lifting hoists ect) to hospitals and care homes ect. His job is travelling around the the district servicing and repairing the equipment.
He'd had a very busy year at work working to catch up on a backlog of jobs because of another employee being off sick Ron needed a break so I asked if he'd liked to come with us to corfu.
11 days into our 14 night holiday Ron had a stroke and was admitted to corfu general hospital. Unfortunately Ron wasn't insured.
The hospital are ready to realise him. We have tried ssafa armed forces charity and the British consulate in corfu and neither of them can help in getting Ron home.
Rons condition is stable but he will need months of care which is not offered in corfu.
I'm currently staying over here at Corfu hospital to give him the 24 hour care that is needed. I've had no choice but to stay in the hospital 24 hours a day and sleep on a chair when possible, just to make sure Ron is cared for. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to stay over here, as I should be at work.
The cost in getting him back by air ambulance is £18,800 and 6 hours travelling.
To transport him via road and ferry it will talk 2-3 days with overnight stops is £9,270 +5% fees
Unfortunately rons condition is not suitable for the doctors to issue a fit to fly certificate for him to use a domestic airlines with a medical escort.
If anyone has any suggestions on helping to get him home, please get intouch

8 years agoA massive thank you to everyone that donate to getting Ron home. Ron is coming home Friday thank to a very kind person. Her daughter was involved in an accident and was admitted to the same hospital as Ron. She had organised a repatriation for her daughter and head about Ron. She kindly offered to add Ron to her flight and bring him back to the UK. Although we didn't hit our target what has been raised in am donating towards the cost of the flight. Once again. Thanks everyone. John
