I'm taking part in the London to Brighton bike race on the 18th June 2017 to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. The race is 54 miles. The charity has set a minimum fundraising target of £200, but it would be great if I could raise more than this.

I'm also doing the race to raise funds for a project I'm undertaking later in the year. At the end of October 2017, I'll be travelling with a group of friends, mainly paramedics, to a small village in Cameroon, called Buh. We aim to improve conditions at an integrated health centre in the village, with help from AidCamps International and its Cameroon partner; SHUMAS. The health centre serves a population of around 6,000 people spread across a wide area and the nearest alternative facility is 10km away. The funds we raise will be used to create three showers and three toilets, with additional hand-washing facilities. Currently, the health centre has no sanitation so all patients have to return home the same day, including women who have just given birth. The funds will also help provide a placenta pit and purchase basic equipment to support patients on the ward and in the maternity unit, as well as staff working in the laboratory and consultation areas.
We will be carrying out the work required to install the sanitation and provide basic medical support in the clinics. The fundraising target for each volunteer is £1,543. Any additional funds raised will go towards providing much needed medical supplies.
