    Story

Sarah Moore, and I are raising money for our friend, Laura Harby. Laura has been ill for several years and it’s taken a long time for doctors to be able to identify what was causing it. The answer? Laura suffers from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) which is a rare condition that affects connective tissue and so can interfere with the way internal organs, nerves and muscles work. Due to the EDS, Laura has had to spend the majority of 2016 in hospital. Laura was in the Royal Derby (Derbyshire) but due to the deterioration in her condition she has been transferred to the intestinal failure unit at St Mark's Hospital, London. Laura now has to be fed intravenously into the heart by a Total Parenteral Nutrition tube (TPN). Despite all this, Laura has continued to be an example of courage and kindness to those who’ve met her and is often more concerned with the welfare of her fellow patients than herself.

Sarah and I want to raise money for the family to be used where they most need it. At the moment, Laura's mum, Jane has been staying in London so that she is near to Laura whilst she is in St Mark's Hospital. However staying in London has proved to be more expensive than they anticipated so we're hoping to raise money to support Jane to continue to do so and for Laura’s dad, Keith, to travel to London each weekend for as long as needed. We hope that this won’t be for much longer but in order for Laura to be discharged; several alterations have to be made to the house so we hope to be able to support with this too.

As this page can only run for 30 days, Sarah and I have set up several events including a sponsored walk around Carsington, bag packing at Morrisons and a quiz night.

If you would like to donate even a few pounds, have any ideas for fundraising or are interested in raising money to support us you can donate via this page or get in touch on Facebook.

Sarah and I just want to say a really big thank you to everyone who has supported us in our Crowdfunding. Thank you so much!! As many of you may be aware, Laura is home which is exciting news but also has been challenging. Our page may have finished but our thoughts are still with this brave family. Please also see below for a thank you straight from the Harby family themselves! :)

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far! We have some good news: Laura was discahrged from St Mark's Hospital on Friday 26th August and is now at home! They still have a long road ahead of them so support will still be appreciated but we cannot thanks those who have donated, shared this page or come along to our fundraising events enough!

Yesterday, we held our quiz night at Belper Leisure Centre. A big thank you to the centre who allowed us to use them as a venue and also provided an amazing raffle prize: a month's free membership at the gym! Big thanks also go to the Moore family for organinsing the event especially Sarah for writing the questions and being our quizmaster. Most of all though, we want to thank all of you who came or donated, for showing yout support. In total, we raised £120!!

We still have the pictures of Laura and Amy during a lovely day out at Shipley Park, a world away from your awful situation now. Send her our love and best wishes.

Sarah and I are Crowdfunding to support Laura because she is our friend. We went to school together and as she now faces the challenge of living with EDS, we want to show her and her family that they are not alone.
