My dear friend has set up this page for my daughter and asked me to write something on behalf for my 11 year old daughter Holly. Holly has muscular dystrophy and was diagnosed when she was 4. Now, Holly can now no longer climb stairs, she falls over regularly and walks are out of the question. To add to her difficulties, her muscles are shortening which means she is forced to walk on her tip toes, which adds to the instability. We have recently found out that this is not operable as if she undertook the surgery it would end the little walking ability she has now. 
Holly asks for nothing, and demands no extra attention, she is determined that the MD won’t define her or change her. However, she is fighting an unfair battle as this disease has a life of its own and there is no cure…yet!

The reason this page has been set up, is that Holly’s living circumstances have recently changed. The house Holly lives in is not set up for her, and financial support is not available as we live in a rented house. This is why my dear friend has set this page up for us. She can see we need a little be of extra help to ensure the safety and qualities of Holly needs are met. We would not normally ask for help, but currently Holly is being piggy backed up the stairs, lifted up the path to the house and taken to and from school each day in the car. There are many adaptations we need, but these are the ones which would make a huge difference for her. As she grows, these work arounds are getting harder. Asking for money is a very hard thing to do but we have had to realise that this is not going away and we need help. We would use any donations given to go towards a stair lift and to make a path to the house so we can apply for an electronic chair. These adjustments are so expensive but they would make the world of difference to Holly. She would gain a little self-respect and independence back; it would be wonderful to see.
