On Wednesday 18th May, I will set off from Leeds City centre, following in the strides of boatmen (and horses) who tramped the towpath of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal for over 100 years, and hopefully arriving in Liverpool on Sunday 22nd May.
2016 marks the bicentenary of the opening of the longest single waterway ever built in the UK which changed the future of our area forever.
The heritage society aims to protect OUR local history and heritage which, in the current economic climate, cannot compete for funding on a national basis. The hard work and dedication of a small team has already brought history to life in events for local Scouts, schoolchildren, at Remembrance services, pubs and local groups.
As an out-of- shape, mid 40’s Mum it will be a challenge to say the least, but as many of you know, one I am hopefully stubborn enough to complete.
