    Story

Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page.

    The Challenge
In order to promote better wellbeing and raise mental health awareness, I will be taking part in the Great Birmingham 10k Run on April 30th 2017. I’ve never been much of a runner but I have been working hard to give myself the best platform to achieve my goal. It will be my first ever running event – a challenge I am looking forward to completing.

    The Cause
Mental health affects many of us, in fact, 1 in 3 people per year are affected by mental health related difficulties. Though there is such prevalence, people can be reluctant to seek help for a number of reasons.

The money donated will help me to cover the cost of resources for me to go into schools around Birmingham and deliver a series of free workshops. The workshops will be based on different topics to help promote better wellbeing with the view to increase mental health awareness and challenge the stigma associated.

    The Aim
My aim is to promote and demonstrate better wellbeing within individuals; making them more resilient to the everyday trials and tribulations in life with a focus on prevention rather than cure.

I hope to motivate people to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and raise an awareness of mental health in order to live a happier and more fulfilling life. Steps in this direction will not only help individuals, but also aid in de-stigmatising mental health - we all have mental health, which can deteriorate. So being able to recognise the signs and build resilience is key!

I am a true believer in being the change you want to see in the world and have taken it upon myself to promote and demonstrate how taking responsibility for our own wellbeing can help to keep well.

Collectively, I believe we can make a difference!

Thank you for all of your support in advance,

    Kiran

Having worked in mental health for many years within different job roles, I have had the opportunity to work with a range of different people with different mental health presentations ranging from severe to mild severity. I have also had the opportunity to work for different organisations that have made me recognise the importance and need for preventative support vs. finding a cure.
