Whilst on holiday to The Gambia, We found Hart House and immediately fell in love with the happy, little children, enjoying their life no matter how difficult it is.
Geoff & Rohey Hunwicks, run a purpose built home for children with learning disabilities. These kids are considered useless & a burden to society, often pushed to one side as they are unable to support their family. Geoff & Rohey had the compassion and empathy to give these helpless children a place to stay all week so their families have time & energy to go out & work to provide food & a home. Hart House is completely funded by voluntary donations and frequently has to put out begging letters so they can remain open.
It was so heart wrenching to see the majority of children walking around barefoot and barely clothed, excited by little gifts we gave them.
It was nothing for us to give a 50kg sack of rice (£20) but the appreciation was enormous.
We were amazed at the effort from staff to ensure these children are given an education, learning life skills & personal hygiene, and provide a good standard of living that EVERY child deserves.
The smallest donations make the biggest difference to these children.
It costs £200 a year to sponsor one child....with the help of social media, reaching thousands of people, we would like to raise enough money to sponsor all 26 children for one whole year.
Without Hart House many of these children would never have survived and the majority would probably have died.
We didn't want to put pics of malnutrition & flies buzzing around snotty nosed kids, but rather show how happy & loving these children are, because they are fortunate enough to stay with Geoff, Rohey & the Team.
Please please, donate a small amount to this special cause. If every person were to give £1, I'm sure we'd soon hit the target. We will continue to visit 4 times a year & take the items that some of you have already kindly gifted.
