Weʼve raised £10 to help with Mouse's vet fees, a rescue filly who was going to be shot because she didn't grow big enough and had a leg injury

    Story

Mouse is a beautiful black little filly who was too little breed from and too small to have a racing career and with a horrific albeit superficial leg injury she was no use to her racing owners and was due to be destroyed by shooting. We rescued her in the hope that time and a little money could put her back together again and we could nurse her back to health and give her a shot at life. We knew her wound would take months to heal and so far it's been bandaged with her under sedation for the last few months now.

Unfortunately about six weeks ago we were given the devastating news that this leg injury was not healing. Proud flesh was engulfing her leg and every time we got it under control it came back. We were given the alternative of putting her to sleep or sending her to hospital for a skin graft. We have already paid £1200 to Catley Cross Vets in Essex to get her leg ready for surgery and earlier this month she was transferred to Rossdales Equine Hospital in Newmarket for a life saving graft that we hope will provide yet another chance for this gentle and sweet filly.

We are asking for help to cover her vet fees that we cannot manage alone. We were not looking for another horse, but we have taken her on. Although she's insured now, they won't cover her pre-existing injury sadly.

No matter how small, every single penny will go into her vet fees with Rossdales and giving her a chance. If you prefer to donate directly to Rossdales, then please call them and say you want to provide a payment for Mouse's vet bill.

If like many you can't afford to donate, then you can still help a great deal by sharing our page and helping raise awareness.

We had a bandage change yesterday again. The lovely Mark came out from Rossdales to our house to sedate and clean up the wound. Meanwhile I'm devouring every bit of Monty Roberts and Kelly Mark's horsemanship and in just 5 days cured Mouse of her head shyness and I can now get a halter on her calmly and quietly. This is her leg after the change yesterday. Can you see from the top how much has grown? Amazing. Ignore the circular wound under this is in fact a bandage rub that we are dealing with separately. Again sorry for the gory pic.

Well everything is going well despite Mouse being broken out of her box by an older mare on Saturday and we arrived to find her doing impressions of the Ferrari Horse, Pegasus and Sea Biscuit in the yard while the old mare was happily in her stable playing with her toys. After two falls, a panicked and tearful call to the vets had Rossdales here within 30 mins and a quick bandage changed revealed luckily no damage. Here's a picture of the wound on Sat 1st. White dots are the grafts. Sorry it's a bit gory.
