Weʼve raised £1,045 to cover our legal costs, to defend our right to protest, outside Linton Pet Shop. The money will also be used to fund our ongoing campaign.

    Story

'Please HELP! We're a group of local residents, with a pet shop nearby, which sells puppies. We've been peacefully protesting and campaigning, near the pet store - trying to urge them to stop selling puppies and to raise potential customers' awareness about pet shop pups. We now desperately need your help...

Shockingly, the pet shop owners recently took some of the protesters to the High Court and succeeded in gaining a temporary injunction, limiting lawful protests and awareness-raising, within a 250m 'exclusion zone' around their pet store. The pet shop gave the protesters just 3 working days' notice of the High Court hearing and the campaigners had to borrow money, to scrabble for legal representation.

The funds raised from this campaign will, therefore, go towards: the legal fees already paid out for this court case and towards any future legal fees incurred, as the pet shop tries to squash ordinary residents' lawful right to protest. We'll also use the money for our awareness campaign - letting members of the public know about the risks of buying puppies from a pet shop.

When buying a puppy from a pet shop, we have no idea where it's come from! Often, a pet shop will say they obtain their puppy 'stock' from 'licensed breeders' - a term which suggests a high standard of breeding. Tragically, these breeders are often 'puppy farms' - many of which are, unfortunately, licensed.

Puppy farm puppies are removed from mum and litter-mates. On arrival at the pet shop, they can be left alone for hours. They often suffer, physically and mentally. The puppies might look healthy and looked-after whilst in the shop, however mum might be more than a hundred miles away - suffering every day and being bred from, over and over and over again.
