Story
Last night, someone broke into our community reuse project. They didn't take much of value but have trashed the place and smashed windows with rocks and scaffolding poles. We are a community enterprise that supports local people with difficult lives and little money. We give food and furniture to people who don't have enough money to eat or buy essential things - nobody ever needs to steal from us because they are desperate. This is just vandalism, theft and greed by someone too lazy to earn their own money and buy things like a normal person.
Since posting my displeasure on our Facebook page this morning Preen has experienced a 'community hug' with hundreds of lovely messages and words of support for what we do. Thank you for that. We needed it.
We are all very touched that so many people have offered to give us a few quid towards the repairs. Some people have dropped money in to the shop today too. Obviously we are really grateful for any help with the repair bill but the gesture itself - when most of our customers have little money to spare - shows such kindness. Thank you.
Customers have asked me to set up a funding page so they can give easily. Here it is :) Our initial estimate puts the repairs and added security now needed at around £2000. Preen doesn't get any outside funding for it's work and £2,000 supports a lot of clients in need. We would rather spend it on that - and your help will allow us to.
All gifts will be given to Preen. If it costs less than we estimated then any unused donations will be used to help food bank or furniture clients. More info about what we do can be found on our website preenreuse.com or on Facebook (PreenCIC).
Thank you for thinking of us and visiting this page.

7 years agoI'm so grateful for all the support with this fundraising. The page closes shortly but we can already buy security cameras with what you have given. This will make a big difference to us - not only if we are broken into but to deter the handful of people who like to help themselves in the shop. We are also going to sort out some gates along the alley where the windows were smashed. We love our work - and the people we help. Between this page and the cash donations in the shop, you gave over £1100. It's a huge amount to us. Thank you.
