Iʼve raised £2,460 to Rebuild Cluny for Eve and Billy Orton
- Funded on Sunday, 5th February 2017

Story
On the 2nd January at 9:35 in the morning, my mother Eve Orton and my brother, Billy Orton, lost their house (which has been in the family since 1920) to a fire. What started as an electrical fault, quickly spread across the house and within 15 minutes, there was nothing left but what you see in the photo's attached. It has been devastating to see all that has been lost - furniture, appliances and most importantly, memories that will be the hardest to replace. We are just very grateful that they both made it out of the house safely (and the cat Whisky) and that we have the opportunity to rebuild most of what has been lost.
I would also like to take a moment to thank all those who have already come forward with donations of clothes, food, accommodation, household goods and money. The support has been incredible and despite this very unfortunate event, we have felt very blessed to be surrounded by such compassion and kindness.
Many have asked whether there is an account or site where they can make a donation to rebuilding Cluny and support my borther and mother through the coming months as we rebuild and this has spurred me to set up this page.
Please do not feel obliged to donate but if you do, my heartfelt thanks! Your contribution, no mater how small, will go a long way to helping my family put their lives back together and if you are ever in the neighbourhood, we would be happy to thank you in person with a cup of tea (and cake if you call in at the right time) - just give us 9-12 months to rebuild :)
Thanks for visiting this page and all the best.

8 years agoAnother quick update is that the looters keep coming and have now taken the Singer sewing machine and more of the dinner service which was smoke damaged. They have also broken in to the annex and taken a couple of mom's things that she had in boxes - some people have no shame. On the good news side, work continues on the demolition and plans for the rebuild. Hoping to have them back in by Christmas - please add us to your prayer lists

8 years agoWould like to thank everyone for the very generous donations that have been made so far. Mom and Billy are now in the rented house and we know it will take close to 12 months and are budgeting R1,5 to R2m to rebuild. Every penny will continue to count towards helping them rebuild their lives.

Hope the re-building goes well. Would be nice if part of the home could be turned into a Bed and breakfast? Maybe Evelyn could take life a little bit easier?
