Story
Please see update below.
Rupert was born with massive orthopedic problems including hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and bent bones in his front legs. Despite this he is the most wonderful, funny, loving puppy who accepts his lot and gets on with being the fantastic pup that he is. Surgery to mend all Rupert's problems is not an option. Even the amazing Professor Noel Fitzparick is unable to work his magic so Rupert's condition is being managed as best we can and with the help of his loving foster mum. He has hydrotherapy and medication and up until recently has managed very well. Recently he started limping and xrays showed he has problems with a bone in his wrist. It needs quite complicated surgery and we only have two options. He has the surgery or we euthanise him. In all other respects he is coping well and Rupert is still a baby. We know at some point we are going to have to face some very tough decisions but that time is not now and we want to give him as long as we can whilst his condition van be managed and he is happy. Rupert has been referred to Lanford RCVS Small Animal Hospital in Bristol who have fitted him in for emergency surgery tomorrow. The cost is approx £2,000. We have already raised £500 with an online auction so need your help to raise the rest. Please help us give Rupert a chance, this puppy is not ready for the bridge yet.
Rupert has been examined and admitted today to Langfords. He will have xrays today and tomorrow undergo surgery to implant a plate in his wrist to freeze the joint. This does mean he will lose some flexibility but once healed he will be pain free. Whilst there we discussed the issues with Rupert's elbows and hips and the decision was made to ct scan them whilst hospitalised. Whatever the outcome of the scans we decided to go ahead with todays surgery but it will inform us on his condition when future problems arise and allow us to make choices in his best interest. The cost has therefore increased to £4 ,000.

8 years agoThank you so much to everyone supporting our appeal to help the wonderful Rupert. He had tests prior to the planned surgery to place a plate in his leg and found he had an infection in the bone. Sadly this means that surgery at this present time is not possible due to risks of the wound not healing. He has a one month course of antibiotics and will then return to Langford to have the operation. His foster mum picked him up from Bristol today and this does mean that he will be on strict rest until he can have the surgery
