On the magical island of Pico, a Portuguese Island, there is a dog rescue centre which is the home to around 80 dogs that have been abandoned. Yes, a story heard in many parts of the world but it is different here.

Sadly, Pico doesn't have a strong pet culture like here in the UK, so these dogs are very unlikely to be rescued. Meaning many will either be euthanised or they will live behind the bars of their kennel forever.

It costs £100 to fly one dog overseas to a rescue centre that gives them a chance to be rehomed and given a shot at happiness.

The dogs live in a concrete kennel, they have 10 minutes exercise per day, live in poo and wee, are very stressed and anxious. They are grouped together to make space for as many dogs as possible, some do not get a long and fight.

As humans we bring dogs into this world and we have allowed them to evolve to be extremely involved in our lives. We have a duty to look out for the ones who do not have a kind heart to protect them from the start.
