    Story

I was diagnosed with Trophoblastic Cancer in 2006. I was walking around happily rubbing my pregnancy bump unaware of what was happening. I'd been incredibly sick unlike my last two pregnancies but thought perhaps it was a boy so thought no more of it. One day I started bleeding in my third month and was rushed to Sligo Hospital where a dedicated team saved my life. I had lost so much blood that I needed a transfusion and was told if I had left it another fifteen minutes I wouldn't be here today. Soon after I found myself in Charring Cross hospital, where again I had to fight to stay alive. I died on the bed in the ward but was resuscitated by a man to which I will always be indebted. My claim to fame is that it was one of the Queens surgeons who saved my life. It was touch and go and my children were asked if they wanted to see me or remember me as I was. That was the worst part. The effect it had on my girls. No child should have to make that choice.I was in ICU for a while. Since then I've suffered illness on numerous occasions. Just recently I had a tumour removed from my Bladder and the damage left is irreversible. More needs to be done so that these sorts of Cancer are found early avoiding a need for life saving surgery. The trophoblastic destroyed my happiness, the Bladder tumour destroyed my body but I will continue to fight. One of the hardest moments for me was having to sit in a waiting room full of expectant mothers happily showing off their scans. My scan showed my baby was dead. I believe a separate department should be made available to grieving parents and that's why I'm raising the money. Having had more than one type of Cancer means I will split any money raised equally to different research departments. Any amount you can give, no matter how small could mean the difference between someone living or dying so please help. If we all pull together hopefully someday receiving the news you have Cancer may no longer be as feared as it is today.

My name is Sharon and I'm 48 years old. I have two amazing children. They are without a doubt my greatest achievement in life. Amy is a primary school teacher and Molly is hoping to be a Maths lecturer. I couldn't be prouder. It's for them that I fight so hard to live.
