    Story

Steve spent his entire life, until 2005, living with a condition that remained "quiet".

In 2005, Steve suffered a bowel rupture and was rushed into the John Radcliffe Hospital where they saved his life. He woke 2 days later thinking that he had appendicitis to the news about his bowel. The Specialists couldn't believe he had spent his life with a condition that twists his intestines and his bowels with no ill effects up to that point. It was explained that they had to cut out much of his intestines that had died and that this was a one off and would never happen again.

A week later his bowel ruptured again.

This time they removed more of his small and large intestines and some bowel, gave him a temporary ileostomy. He was informed that he had died... twice. The ileostomy was reversed 3 months later. Steve, a professional gardener, tried to continue with his work, having to deal with various "episodes" where his bowel would twist and adhesions would "stick" the bowel with a twist.

In 2009 Steve had surgery to remove many adhesions that were causing him immense pain. He continued to struggle on with episodes on and off until 2012, where it was recommended that he eat a "no fibre" diet. Initially it helped his condition but slowly his health declined.

In March 2015, Steve was sent to the specialist at the John Radcliffe because of immense pain and distension in his stomach caused by more blockages. They were unable to offer any help and after a fraught and fruitless trip to A&E, a second opinion was sought in March 2016

The second opinion consultant, who did not even bother to retrieve Steve's extensive file from John Radcliffe, informed him that he was "out of her remit" and would refer him to another specialist. After a rather disheartening telephone call with the third specialist, and watching Steve deteriorate before our eyes, our only way ahead is through a private consultation. Please help Steve get the diagnosis he desperately needs.

I would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to everyone who has helped support Steve on the road to his treatment. He is now currently on a feed pump via a PEG tube which was recently fitted. The Consultant at Kings College Hospital wants him to stay on the pump for the next 3-4 months so he can rebuild his strength and health whilst he undergoes some scans and tests. None of this would be made possible if it weren't for YOUR help. Much love x

An update for you all. We are currently awaiting an urgent appointment for Steve to have a PEG fitted so he can at least get some nutrition into him. Those who have seen him recently will know he definitely needs it. Daily calls to our Practice Manager to put a sense of urgency into things. It's still a waiting game unfortunately but frustrating nonetheless. Thank you all again for your support and generosity. It means so much to Steve and myself.
