    Story

Timu Rafiki - Kiswahili for 'A Team of Friends' who are working to facilitate the support of Young People through Scouting Partnerships in the UK and Kenya.

We support young people through Scouting in Kenya by:
•Creating life changing opportunities to deliver educational projects
•Supporting Scouting to be sustainable in Kenya
•Providing skills for better opportunities in life

    Our Objectives
    • Providing consultancy/advisory service to those planning expeditions to Kenya.
    • Hosting expeditions to Kenya
    • Fundraising to directly feed into ‘live’ Timu Rafiki Projects in Kenya
    • Continuous relationship and partnership with Scouting in Kenya
    • Building a twinned network of Scouting between UK and Kenya
    • To be UK Ambassadors for Scouting In Kenya

The projects mainly support Scouting to ensure that the provision is available for all young people, not just those that can afford to attend. Teaching and mentoring young people the projects develop life skills, so that they can trade, earn money and learn how to make their own way.

We want to ensure that the support to these projects is ongoing, so rather than just through the ad-hoc support through UK Scouting when an expedition would travel across to Kenya, a group of like-minded friends have set up Timu Rafiki which enables the support to come from a wider base than just Scouting but also ensures consistency in #MakingItHappen for young people in Kenya.

Our next two projects will focus on rebuilding a Scout centre in north-west Kenya that we have supported and maintained since the year 2000 and providing a clean safe water source through the building of a well in the centre.

Money raised will be taken to Kenya during project work-force trips and spent on local resources, using local tradesman whilst exchanging skills and teaching young people to create their own opportunities and futures.

Today myself and LuLu ran 9miles along the ridge, down Harold road and along the seafront to the finish line... oh and we did finish of with a slog up Harley Shute!!!!! Jelly babies and Lucosade sport were what got us round so if anyone is cheering us on and wants to chuck us a sugar hit then both of those are amazing!
