Weʼve raised £230 to convert a caravan for special needs access and sleeping accommodation so Willow can go on holidays!

    Story

Willow is my 7 (almost 8 year old!) daughter.
She has the cheekiest, lovable face and can light up a room with one giggle!
Willow has Down syndrome along with other medical needs. Sadly last year, family holidays had to come to a stop when it was no longer safe to let Willow sleep in a travel cot. Willow has a special needs bed at home which has high sides, padding and lockable doors to keep her safe and secure during the night as she has no sense of danger. Last year while on a family holiday, she was managing to climb out of a travel cot due to her being taller than the sides of it which put her in grave danger of having an accident.
After looking at all options such as a mobile special needs bed, we came up with the idea that it would be cheaper and better to get a caravan and convert this into a safe environment with built in bed for Willow. It will take some work but a family holiday isn't a family holiday if you have to leave a much loved member of the family behind!
We are setting up this page to be the main base for donations. We don't like to beg so plenty will be going on to raise these funds! We are not shy about doing something very silly to help raise money so expect to see some very random things going off!
We won't be having a holiday this year so the money we save will also be going towards this project.
We are hoping that once we have completed the project, the caravan can be hired out to other families in similar situations and possibly convert more to pass onto other families with children who need that safe space to enjoy a holiday away!

We are currently preparing for another round of surgery for Willow, which she will have a week today. Placing your child in the hands of a surgeon never gets any easier, no matter how many times you do it. Willow is fed via a gastrostomy tube in her belly. A few months ago she pulled this out and sadly the hole hasn't heeled. She has been relying on an NG tube in her nose for the last few month but this is now becoming an issue for her as she keeps pulling it out due to it irritating her. Think we're all gonna need a holiday once it's done!

If Willow could talk, we know she would say thank you for all the support so far! This week has been pretty full on researching and sadly we're coming to the conclusion that a touring caravan will be just far too small to adapt and create enough space for all Willow's equipment and a special needs bed area. So we are now looking at a static which will be much more suited for her! The running costs are unreal!! But y'know what? This little lady is certainly worth it and I'm refusing to go on a family holiday without her!

This is the type of bed Willow has to use at home. So far we have found nowhere that provides this kind of bed for short stays or even longer. Due to Willow's size now and complex needs, this means that she cannot go anywhere! She can't visit family, go on holiday or have a sleep over that children her age do. Giving her a holiday home that will be specially built to her needs, which would include a bed, storage for her gastro feeding equipment, changing facilities, wheelchair access and much more to meet her complex needs.
