After having accepted a work experience placement in the offices of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE THEATRE COMPANY 'Gecko', I have now also been offered a place on their three-day artists training programme. They have granted me both placements for the same week: 3 days will be spent training and the remaining 2 will be spent exploring the offices and how such an amazing company is run behind the scenes. The slight downside is that the training course costs £120 to take part, and that is not including my train fares, accommodation or living expenses whilst I am staying down in Ipswich. Despite this, it is an opportunity that I do not want to pass up: those of you who know me well enough know that this has been my dream since I saw their production of Institute at the Bristol Old Vic in 2014.

"The training programme in Ipswich is for those at the very start of their careers as performers, theatre makers or choreographers.

It will give participants the chance to experience Gecko’s unique style of movement and physical theatre, as well as an opportunity to gain insight into our creative processes when devising a show. These workshops will explore the use of breath in exploring emotion, and are always highly physical and dynamic. Sessions will include preparation exercises and tasks that focus on creating movement for performance, culminating in an informal sharing at the end of the three days.

The residency will be delivered by two of Gecko’s devising performers; Ryen Perkins-Gangnes (Missing, Institute, The Time of Your Life and The Wedding) and Katie Lusby (The Time of Your Life and The Wedding) who will guide participants through the three days, and give an insight into what life is like within a touring physical theatre company.
