    Story

My name is Adam Smith and I am PE teacher at a school in Essex. I'm volunteering to help with a school trip to Kenya alongside Camps International during the summer of 2018 as it's such a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn new skills and see an area of the world that is so different to their lives at home, as well as being able to help the communities and wildlife out there at the same time.

The trip is going to last for 28 days, and we plan to leave at the end of July 2018. The majority of the time will be spent providing assistance and support with local issues such as basic facilities, community buildings, construction of houses, and protection of the environment and wildlife. We will also have the opportunity to go in safari, and meet the famous Maasai tribe and learn some cultural skills from them. The trip will conclude with a trek up to the summit of Mt. Kenya, where students will be able to watch the sun rise across the Savannah. The whole experience will be very humbling, and will give the group a new perspective to think about and some invaluable skills and achievements that they can bring back with them. The community will really benefit as well - with a large proportion of inhabitants living on less that $1 a day, our help is something that can really make a difference.

I chose to help with this trip because it really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity where both the students and the community can benefit. Each student (as well as myself) needs to raise £3990 in total before we set off - it's a lot of money to raise but will be worth the impact that we can have. This amount goes not only towards our initial costs to get there but also directly into the community, meaning that your donation is making a difference before we've even gone out there. Any additional money that I will raise will be shared amongst my students to help them with their targets. I will be grateful for anything that can be donated as it's a truly amazing opportunity to be a part of.
