    Story

There are many events taking place. The main one, taking place on the 22nd February, is a sponsored swim, in which myself and 5 others will be swimming the length of the English Channel, which is 26 miles in total. This will be 1,664 lengths.

    The Uganda Trip...
On 4th July this year, myself and a small group of students will be flying to Uganda for 3 weeks to work at the Good Samaritan School and Orphanage.
Over the years, our school has had a very hands on relationship with this extremely poor primary school in Wakiso, a suburb of Kampala. They have visited and worked in the school 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015 with the next visit planned for July 2017 and I am looking forward to being part of it.
Our group are raising money to have 7 houses built. These houses will be for the teachers that work in the school. They presently have to pay rent and live away from the school. Some of the teachers take up to 6 orphaned children home with them whilst also looking after their own. At the moment, most of them live in small huts with only 1 room, with this restricted living space, life in Uganda is extremely tough.

We can build a house for around £1000 so we are hoping to raise as much as we can to help build these homes.

There is a mix of children at the school, around 265 in total. Many are orphaned as a result of the impact of HIV/AIDS. They live with grandparents or other relatives. 40 or so live at the school itself sleeping on the floor of a tin roofed shed, because there is just nowhere else to sleep. They are incredibly happy despite their poverty. They love school and their attitude to learning is amazing. School is a privilege in Uganda and the difference between the education system in England and Uganda is astounding.
By raising money for supplies, we will change the lives of teachers, pupils and their families who currently live in extreme poverty.
