Story
In the summer of 2018 I will be travelling to Tanzania as part of my Civil and Structural Engineering master’s module at Newcastle University. The volunteer work entails a group of Newcastle University students to design and build a water infrastructure overseas for a school in a remote village. The project will improve access to safe drinking water, and raise awareness about the importance of hygienic practices.
Only 50% of Tanzania's population of 53 million people have access to an improved source of safe water, and only 34% of Tanzania's population has access to improved sanitation. Donations will contribute to the supply of materials and specialised equipment needed to construct the water supply for a local school in Tanzania.
The project involves working together as a close community for five weeks, with no mobile phone or internet access. It’s an amazing opportunity to learn about new cultures and experience life in Tanzania first-hand. I’ve aspired to be part of a volunteer project like this one and hope to continue volunteer work in less economically developed countries within my future career path.
If you want to donate I would be grateful! Any amount you chose to donate will make a real-life difference to the lives of people in developing countries.
Any donations you can spare small or large are great, thank you!
