Story
Our Son, Alaric, Was born prematurely at 33 weeks. It was a terrifying time, he was born weighing just 3lbs 3 ounces. Due to intestinal problems, he couldn't eat for 4 days, meaning that he actually went down to 2lbs 9 ounces at his lightest weight.
We'd never seen a baby so small, so helpless looking. It was scary beyond words. After a spate of Jaundice, lots of tubes, lots of drugs, and 3 weeks of time passing, our little one is finally almost read to come home!
It was a really tough time for our family, but it was a time that was made so much easier thanks to the dedication and support of all of the wonderful staff at St Helier's Neonatal unit. The work that the Neonatal unit do, day in and day out, is nothing short of a miracle. They are carers for our babies, they treat them, soothe them, council and advise parents, and provide a safe and secure environment for our little ones to be made better!
The Neonatal unit unfortunately also falls victim to the NHS underfunding, having to resort to fundraising when they require new equipment. Did you know that a lifesaving incubator costs between 8-12k! We'd like to 'give something back' to the unit, not only to say thanks, but to guarantee, and make their treatment of future little patients that much easier. The unit have raised 5k in donations so far, and we'd like to bridge as much of that gap as possible to enable them to purchase the much needed equipment that they need.
If you are able to contribute anything at all to help the Neonatal unit that we owe so much to, please do. The smallest amount will make a big difference when we join together. Thank you for taking the time to read this far!
We're also in the process of organising a fundraising event for the Neonatal unit. We have requested permission from Sutton Council to utilise the 'St Helier Green Space' opposite the hospital to hold a fundraising event in August. We will update this post with more info as we have it.

Our son was born at 34 weeks and spent 2 weeks in the St Helier Neonatal unit. They did a wonderful job looking after him, I hope this donation goes a small way to helping the department.
