I had a strong wish to help Syrian refugees for a while, and now the opportunity has arisen for me to travel to Serbia, where there are still many Syrians, including children and other vulnerable people, misplaced and with nowhere to go.

I have chosen Serbia, because I speak the Language, and it will be easy for me to communicate and link with the local volunteers if needed.

I have also chosen to go to Serbia because the country is struggling with many of their own problems, so most of the refugees are receiving very little or no help.

Winters in Serbia can be very harsh, with lot of snow and temperatures falling to -10C and lower, so I will go there in early January, when the winter conditions are likely to be the worst, and likely to cause death, if people don't have the right accommodation, appropriate clothing and enough food.

I am working as a health and social care assistant, so I live on a relatively low salary, but I will be happy to use £1000 of my own money for this project.

This is not the first time I have decided to do something like this. After the tsunami, I went to Sri Lanka and volunteered for 5 months there, once again, because I knew the area and the locals. Since then, I have donated and helped in smaller ways, whenever I could, with no preference, prejudice or discrimination, but purely because I encountered someone in need, and I was able to offer help. So my reasons are very simple and apolitical.

All of us have been in a situation where we needed help, bit or small, so we all know how it feels when there is nobody to help, and how wonderful it is when someone shows that they care, no matter how small and modest the gesture.

I hope you will join me in this cause, and bring some warmth into the hearts of the people who currently have no home, and no foreseeable future.
