Story
Allerton Brass was formed in November 2013, by Mike and Tony Jackson. After a number of conversations, we decided to see if there was an appetite for a brass band in Liverpool. We compiled a list of local brass players who were actively playing but had to travel substantial distances to find bands to play in. To this were added lapsed players; retired players; players who had moved into the area and any other players we were friendly with. The result was a full brass band which put on a fabulous Christmas concert, held at the Capstone Theatre and raised an incredible £1000 for the MS Society and MS Trust.
The following January, we started up band rehearsals again. At first there was little more than a quartet but the group steadily built in strength and stature and in the process was able to do more for several charities including Nugent Care, The Alzheimer’s Society and Asylum Link.
The band loves to try new things and in May 2014 put on the first of what has become an annual Spring themed concert. So far we have covered Movies, Stage Musicals and Swing – this year will be “Rock of Ages”.
By mid-2016 we had grown into a full brass band and took the decision to enter our first ever contest in Rochdale in October. We were delighted to be awarded 1st place in the Fourth Section! Early this year we followed this up with a trip to the “Brass at the Guild” contest in Preston and more recently the North West Regional Championships in Blackpool where we came 2nd out of a field of 17 bands and secured qualification to the Finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain!
Now that we have qualified, we need to get to the Finals in Cheltenham in September. Not only do we need a coach for the weekend, but we also need to find somewhere to stay! We have set ourselves a fund raising target of £6,500 to cover all our travel and accommodation expenses plus the cost of purchasing the additional equipment and music we will require.

7 years agoThank you so much for those of you have donated to our fundraising cause for the National Brass Band finals in Cheltenham. The Blowathon was a great success. The band had an amazing time and loved the experience and the challenge. We've received a lot of "cash" donations/fundraising and can now revise our JustGiving target to £1,500. We have a fundraising event on 7 July so please get in touch if you fancy joining a night of fun. Again, thank you so much from all members of the Band.
