Story
Alresford Methodist Church is running a fundraising drive to pay for urgent repairs to the church roof in Jacklyns Lane. Works include replacement of roof tiles on the church building, improvements to insulation and a new kitchen roof.
Among the first organisations in the town to step up and support the church were the Alresford Pigs Association and The Rotary Club of Alresford who pledged £5,000 and £1,000 respectively to go towards the £33,000 needed to cover the building work being carried out by Venn and Son.
“So many organisations like the Guides and Brownies, Lunch Club and the Historical and Literary Society have used the building on a regular basis but leaks have made life difficult for us all,” said Church Treasurer Brian Robinson.
Chris Wood has been project managing the scheme on behalf of the church “You only see the front of the church hall from the road but the building is like a Tardis, with the church itself behind and the problems have occurred where the church was joined on to the original Methodist church hall,” he said.
The Church needs to spend another £9,000 and now appeals to the local community to support them to not only complete this project but to also create a safe rear access to the church so that parents can drop off children safely away from Jacklyns Lane.
