On the 11th of July this summer I will be going to Zambia for 2 months as part of a project to teach children sport . This is a continuous project running for 5 months throughout the year, organised by The Wallace Group of 7 British universities. This is the 13th year of the project which has shown many positive outcomes, including some of the children who go on to become peer leaders and work within the charities.

We have to raise money- both to buy sports equipment, and to support our teaching of the Peer Leaders so that the sports programme can continue to run when we are not there. There is particular emphasis on getting girls into sport as sport is not always accessible to women in Africa, and one of the NGOs we will be working with is Girls in Action (Since the project has started it has been gratifying to see one girl in particular go on to set up her own organisation in Africa).

As well as teaching some sport, I will be responsible for documenting the project while I'm there and results can be seen on the Wallace Group website and social media pages. While there, I will also be helping charities such as Sport in Action understand how to benefit from social media.
