Story
I am currently fundraising for Kenya, and as a volunteer I will help generations of children by building new classrooms and kindergartens, constructing vitally needed community housing from local materials for some of the most impoverished families, improving the health of a whole community through installing and improving local amenities, installing new water facilities to provide fresh drinking water, helping with environmental protection and making sustainable livelihoods, and I am also aiming to raise excess money to buy stationary and other useful items that can be donated in schools and homes.
Kenya is a very beautiful and inspiring country but did you know 42% of Kenyans live below the poverty line, nearly half of the population live on less than 75p per day, and the average life expectancy is only 55 years old, that’s nearly 30 years less than the UK?
To raise funds I will be walking 6,716.1 miles, which is equivalent to the mileage between London and Kenya. I will do my sponsored mileage by walking through fields, forests, roads, villages, cities and counting my every step. I will need to walk at least 22,000 steps a day/11 miles a day. For the last 5 miles I will walk through Hyde Park and will welcome supporters to come and join me. I am going to start now and my family and friends have offered to help me achieve my goals and report their steps to me daily. Hopefully this will get easier overtime as those who know me, know that I’m far from sporty, but I will always remember every step we take will help us get one step closer to helping those less fortunate than us...
I chose to fund raise for Kenya as both my grandparents were from Kenya, I was very close to them and last year I lost them both on the same day. When I was given this opportunity to become a volunteer in Kenya, I felt an instant connection to this cause. Through this trip I also hope to award my grandparents ongoing charity. I have worked with a number of charities and have awards and certificates from all of them but my goal was not to achieve any of these awards but my heart and mind always looks at the smile on people’s faces that I’ve helped and being able to help the less fortunate in a way I can and change the world to be a better place. I have won a Jack Petchy award for the time I spend fund raising for charities that are in need. I have also helped, Haven House, Readathon, British Heart Foundation, Great Ormond Street hospital, Cancer Research and the Cancer Therapy Room at Queens’s hospital.
Can you please sponsor me, thank you for any and all donations however large or small amounts will help, every penny will make pounds.
