Hello/Shwmae! My name is Amy, I'm in my first year at Durham University and I want to help reduce severe deprivation in Zambia through Sport.

This summer I will be volunteering for eight weeks across Lusaka using Sport as a tool for long term development. Here, over 30% of all children under the age of 15 are orphans, mainly AIDS orphans . While, 80% of the people in rural areas live below the poverty line . I will be working in partnership with Sports In Action and The Wallace Group. My focus will be at The Fountain of Hope Centre (an orphanage) under the role as Women's Sports Ambassador. I will be using multi sports to inspire and teach street children, particularly young females; who do not have the same opportunity as males to participate in sport.

The facilities at The Fountain of Hope have newly been renovated by Durham Uni. However, desperately lack volunteers to lead, coach and inspire the youngsters. My challenge will be to set up and develop grass roots community sports teams. Sport will be used as a tool to educate the local community through incorporating key social message e.g HIV/AIDS awareness. Furthermore, sports at the orphanage will increase the children's sense of belonging and provide a fun and safe place for them to grow up.

I have been asked to raise £2000 to go to the costs of the trip including flights, accommodation and sporting equipment that will be donated at the placement sites. I have £500 left to raise !
