Weʼre raising £60,000 to Raise Money for Andy Jones to obtain treatment/therapy that is not available on the NHS.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

In December 2016, my husband Andy received the devastating news that he had a cancerous and aggressive brain tumour, a Glioblastoma Multiforme, the most common high grade primary brain tumour in adults.

Having undergone brain surgery, six weeks of radiotherapy and six months of the "gold standard" chemotherapy, his tumour, unfortunately showed subtle signs of progression so Andy switched to a different chemotherapy - but the tumour continued to grow.

Whilst the NHS were nothing but amazing, the treatment offered didn't work so we began considering therapies and drugs that were available privately.

Andy had his third surgery on 29th December 2017, where the surgeon removed as much as the tumour as he could physically see. Andy recovered amazingly and was out of hospital within 48 hours.

During this time, we began crowdfunding to try and raise money for Optune Therapy, a high costing treatment that would involve Andy wearing 4 adhesive patches on his head for up to 22 hours a day to deliver therapy direct to the tumour area. Thanks to the amazing support from family, friends, churches, schools, bowlers and people unknown to us, Andy began wearing the Optune Device in April 2018.

Sadly with Glioblastoma, one treatment or therapy is never enough and we now need to add in other treatments to keep this "beast" at bay. In the last month, Andy has lost mobility on his left side due to brain swelling as the tumour remains on the move. Optune is designed to stop new cells from growing and multiplying, so this does not necessarily mean that Optune isn't working - the growth maybe from cells already there.

We would now like to add in a drug called Avastin, this drug is known to reduce swelling as well as kill off cancer cells, but is not licensed here in the UK for brain tumour. It is extremely expensive at a whopping cost of £5000 per month.

We still have some money left from the initial crowdfunding to commence this treatment, but we will be unable to sustain it past two months, so we really need your help again. We also need to continue visiting London for regular scans and monthly Optune maintenance checks.

Despite the mobility problems and the emotional roller coaster this horrid journey takes us on, Andy is trying really hard to beat this disease.

It remains a big thing for us to ask everyone for help and we honestly wouldn't ask if we didn't need to. Any donations/fundraising anyone can do to help would be REALLY appreciated.

In the event that Andy can't use the money raised, we will donate it to The Brain Tumour Charity for their essential research.

Many thanks for all your support, it means so much.

Nicola, Andy and Rhieyen xx

Just an update to those not on Facebook to let you know that Andy has lost mobility on his left hand side due to brain swelling, he is still wearing the Optune cap and we have monthly trips to London. We would like to continue the fundraising to pay for a cancer drug called Avastin that is not available on the NHS and would be very grateful for your continued support. We are also running a "Supporters Club" for Andy, like a monthly lottery to help raise money for the London visits, please let me know if you would like to join. Many thanks xx

Andy will be starting treatment on 9th April!!!!! He will need a scan in London in two weeks time prior to starting. We will also need to go to London every four weeks for maintenance. Negotiations took a while and were not as straight forward as expected so we will need to keep the fundraising going in order for the therapy to continue - if you can still help that would be amazing. Thank you to everyone for all your support.
