Story
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page.
The first Paediatric cardiology unit in the country opened at Killingbeck Hospital, in Leeds in 1966.I had open heart surgery there 3 times as a child and once as an adult to repair defects and replace my Mitral valve.
The unit moved to Leeds General infirmary, Jubilee wing in 1998 and I have continued to receive amazing care, support and treatment over the years including having 2 Cardioconverter devices implanted. Thanks to their ongoing, amazing achievements over the years I will be 50 this July.
I cannot express the appreciation and admiration I have for the dedicated and skilled staff that I have met, that have cared for me over the years and will continue to care for me for the rest of my life. These people make it possible for children with congenital heart disease to have a childhood and become adults. So this summer I will celebrate my 50th birthday by holding a fundraising event on Saturday 15th July. The goal is to raise money for “Keeping the Beat”. This is an appeal supported by Children’s Heart Surgery Fund to raise £500,000 towards a revolutionary children’s heart theatre, based at the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, we need your help to ensure it happens. The children’s heart theatre is one of its kind and bespoke to the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit; the theatre will be used for treating babies and children with congenital heart disease and will save the lives of many children in our region.

I was 11 months old when diagnosed with congenital heart disease; I had my first open heart surgery aged 9 and my last aged 25 and have had ongoing treatment since; Without dedicated staff & resources this wouldn't be possible so this is my way of giving something back.Thank you
