As many you know, I've had breast cancer for the last twelve years. Five years ago I found it had metastasised and spread to my bones, liver and lungs. I've gone through many treatments, from conventional medicine, with four rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and drugs to supportive alternative treatments, such as acupuncture, reflexology and cranial sacral. I’ve been at the edge and many of you thought I wouldn’t survive this long.

Chemotherapy has brutal side effects, during and after. Because of nerve damage, I’ve lost most of the sensation in my feet and fingers and there’s always the risk of falling. The last round of chemotherapy finished just over a year ago and since then my life feels like its opened out again. I’m running workshops again, acting in commercials, enjoying life.

The last CT scan in January showed up two new cancer growths in my liver.

I’ve discussed options with my oncologists and liver specialists, and the only treatment they can offer me is yet another round of chemotherapy.

As you know, I’m hugely independent woman and there is a real risk that I may lose yet more sensation in my feet and fingers and not be able to walk, drive or use my hands, as well as other serious side effects. I dread having more chemotherapy as my body feels utterly poisoned by it, my life closes down and I become a shell of my previous self.

At this point, I am not ready to move in this direction, although I am willing to try it if this becomes my last resort.

Another option then presented itself to me. It has had amazing results for some people.

I have found a healer from the Lakota tradition practicing in Germany, whom I went to see in February. His approach resonated deeply with my own spiritual work and I felt really at home with him and his family. He works with Uwipi ceremony and the spirits in a way that felt very real, yet challenging. He has offered me nine days of ceremonies and healings from the beginning of April and a year’s commitment to my living, hopefully free of cancer. Before I met him, I was indecisive and not completely convinced that I shouldn’t begin the chemotherapy immediately. After meeting him, I feel sure instinctively, that his work is the next step for me. I’m more than happy to elaborate, if you want to get in touch.
