Our little boy, Archie, is the happiest and cheekiest boy. But unfortunately was diagnosed at my 20 week scan with polycystic kidney disease. When Archie was first born it was a huge worry how his kidneys would cope, but luckily he is doing really well and is just needing regular check ups.

At 6 weeks old, Archie got referred for his eyes not focusing, after lots of testing, he was diagnosed as severly visually impaired (blind) and he has pendulum nystagmus. This was such a shock to us as a family.

Archie is now 10 months old and has a team of professionals helping him. He has a visually impaired teacher who advises us on how to get Archie to meet his targets. Archie is very sensory aware and the littlest things make him laugh and smile.

Our aim is to build Archie a sensory garden. Currently our garden is a big open space of soggy grass, which Archie would find it difficult to get around. So we would like to put in raised flower beds with lovely smelling flowers and herbs, a water feature, we would like different textures and heights for him to be able to feel, a decking so we can all sit outside together. Archie loves the feeling of wind on his face and being outside. Our aim is to do coffee and cake mornings, sponsored walks etc in order to raise money to do the garden ready for spring.

Archies consultant and teacher have also advised for us to stimulate his sight as much as possible, so depending on the amount of money we can raise we would like to buy him sensory equipment such as a bubble tube, strobe lights and ipad.

We will get in a professional company to give us quotes for the garden and aim to do it by April.
