    Story

Members of St Paul's Church Ireland Wood are raising money for Baby Basics Leeds by tackling the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds Virtual Challenge! The Leeds triathlon cannot take place this year so in this virtual duathalon challenge we will be recording our attempts at a run and cycle in the week of 20 - 26th July 2020 (More info).

Baby Basics Leeds is a volunteer-led project, based at St Paul's, aiming to support new mothers and families who are struggling to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby. Baby Basics provides much needed essentials and equipment to mothers and families who are unable to provide these items for themselves; including but not limited to teenage mums, people seeking asylum and women fleeing domestic abuse and trafficking.

Working with midwives, health visitors and other professional groups to provide support directly where it is most needed, Baby Basics volunteers lovingly collect, sort and package a ‘Moses Basket’ of clothing, toiletries and essential baby equipment as an attractive gift to new mothers.

With the effects of Covid-19 on the economy just beginning to be seen demand is already increasing. Combined with the difficulties in getting second hand donations due to the current restrictions Baby Basics appreciates any donations you can give.

Below are some illustrated costs to show you how your donation may be used.

At a minimum, a starter pack will always contain a brand new mattress to ensure safety - this costs £10.

Toiletries for mother and baby must be new and unopened - these cost around £30

The moses basket, clothing, muslin's, toys etc. are usually good quality 2nd hand donations but if they must be bought they might cost £120, so a full pack is expected to be worth at least £160.

    Thank you for your support!
