I have just got a letter from the DWP informing me that I will be receiving £100 for a Winter Fuel Allowance. I have decided to donate this to a local charity and have chosen Spelthorne Rentstart. For a homeless person to rent a room from a local landlord, they need funds that are impossible for them to find. The charity can provide a bond to cover the deposit but the landlord will want a month's rent in advance. If just 4 generous pensioners donate their allowance this will give one person a roof over their head in the coming cold months of winter. Of course my target is to help more than just 1 person. Last winter Rentstart was aware of over 20 people sleeping on the streets of the Borough and this number is rising each year.
