    Story

Volunteering has always been a major ambition of mine and provides the opportunity to push the boundary of my comfort zone and get to know an entire new culture. I’m coming towards the end of University which proved to be the perfect time to get stuck in with international volunteering in Fiji for a month with Think Pacific and live with a Fijian family in an underdeveloped village. The main reason I decided to volunteer for Think Pacific through Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is because I wanted my first decision after essentially gaining educational freedom to be a selfless act of kindness and who better to learn from than the friendliest Fijian culture.

During my time In Fiji I will be fully immersed in the day to day lives of the community alongside 24 other NTU students. As a team we will undertake education and sports development projects within the village which undoubtably will improve the quality of life and further enhance opportunities for the children living there.

During the 4 weeks I will be:

    - Working alongside the Fijian government aims to teach children in local schools by delivering literacy and numeracy lessons to improve education.

    - Coaching sports sessions in a range of different activities to help children develop essential life skills including but not limited to leadership and teamwork, alongside helping to provide them with sports equipment.

    - Supporting development within art, dance and drama in the community to help enhance creativity.

Any donation is genuinely appreciated and will make a profound impact on directly changing the lives of Fijian children. The first £400 will go directly to the charity and is my goal, anything beyond that will help me cover the funds for the trip so I can get out there and make a difference.

Think Pacific is a registered Fijian charity, working hand in hand with the Fijian Government, and by donating you are helping them to continue to achieve goals such as:

    - Seen a 40% improvement in literacy in Summer 16

    - Built 72 Kindergartens

    - Seen a 600% increase in sports participation

    - 60 building projects created

    - 10,000 children supported each year

If you want to know any more then please visit the Think Pacific website.
