    Story

Thank you for visiting the biology department’s donation page for ‘Chasing Connor’s Cure’!

As you know I will be offering an intensive revision session in the coming school break, for year 13 students in their preparation for the upcoming external A level examinations.

The session will focus on the final unit of the course, Topic 8; Control of gene expression, and will be linked to other relevant sections of the course to allow for the synoptic nature of their studies.

I hope you will understand my saying a little more about the significance of this area of biological science.

The importance of this area of study cannot be underestimated in this period of genetic research and advances in the use of genetic manipulation in medicine and the treating of disease.

This area of research has a personal resonance for me, as the brother of one of my son’s friends was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, at the age of just four years old.

The family of the little boy, Connor, are determined to help to find a cure for this life limiting disorder, which causes muscles to slowly weaken, leading to an increased level of disability. To do this, they have set up a charity called ‘Chasing Connor’s Cure’ and all monies raised go towards funding the Duchenne UK research projects, looking to find a cure for Connor and other children like him.

If you would like to make a donation to Chasing Connor’s Cure, in recognition of the hard work your son/daughter is doing towards this area of study in gene technology, please use the online donation form on this website.

All donations will be used by Duchenne UK, for a research project chosen by Connor’s family.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Mrs V Gardner
    Head of Science
