Story
We have permission from the Borough of Poole and a full written agreement. we have support from lots of local groups and people from all over the world. 90 % has been applied for from the arts council and is being considered now. We need to raise £6200 and already have already raised over £2400 so we just need to raise another £3800 . If the Arts Council ( Lottery ) provide the full 90% then we can get on with choosing the best sculptor for the job of making the statue of the Newfoundland Dog and Labrador Retriever which will be placed near to Poole Quay in Baiter Park. The statues will look out over Poole Harbour where the Poole / Newfoundland trading fleet would have been sighted sailing in and dropping anchor then waiting turn to unload on the very busy and bustling Poole Quay about 200 years ago bringing trade goods and also the original dogs that would become the well known Labrador Retriever and the Newfoundland Dog. When we have succeeded in completing the task we can look forward to Ben Fogle visiting ( as per his pledge ) to attempt a world record number of Labrador Retrievers in one place. Lots more information is available in the Facebook group called

7 years agoThis project has now expanded to include a competition for school children to produce a work of art that reflects an aspect of Poole Dorset history. I envisage that the art competition will initially be rolled out in Poole for children aged 12 to 16. An annual event event with prizes needs to be organised. Support is evident from schools, media , artists, industry and the mayor !

7 years agoThe fundraising campaign is getting really quite exciting. We are in negotiation with a number of local groups who we hope will contribute towards the fund, the target of £3800 has already been reduced due to actual payments and a generous written pledge. If we include these we have already achieved a good portion of the target figure and have broken through the half way point. Thank you for to all the people who have contributed to the fund so far.
