    Story

To mark its Centenary in 2022 the Club is building a new, modern clubhouse to replace the existing 60-year-old wooden building which is cramped and very outdated with no disabled access or heating. The Club has funds for the basic structure but needs help to equip the interior.

Please help fit out our new clubhouse! All donations welcome, large or small - any amount you can afford will help make this a space to be proud of where members and visitors will feel welcome and comfortable.

You may like to give the cost of a specific item eg a microwave (£80), kettle (£30), new crockery (£100), mirrors for changing rooms (£50). Or bigger items like heaters (c. £250), flooring (c. £400), kitchen cupboards, sink, taps etc. (>.£1,000), lockers and benches in the changing rooms (£200), or decorating (c. £100). (Approximate values).

Rewards! In return for donations of £50 or more: a half-price tennis lesson with club coach Kingsley Harris or a chauffeur-driven ride in a classic car. For donations of £500+: a week's accommodation in a luxury apartment in the archetypally Swiss mountain village of Klosters. The apartment is available from 1 April–31 October 2022 for a donation of £500. www.apartmentinklosters.co.uk

The Club has been providing local residents with the opportunity to play and enjoy tennis for 100 years. It currently has over 150 members of all ages and playing abilities and offers year-round tennis on its two floodlit courts on the Rissington Road, Bourton.

Work is well underway on a new, brick-built building which will see the Club well into its next century.

Once fitted out, the new clubhouse will be a valuable local amenity. With modern changing rooms, disabled-access toilet facilities and a well-equipped kitchen/dining area, it will provide a much-needed, welcoming hub for players and visitors. It will allow the club to entertain visiting teams in comfort and to provide refreshments at Open Days, social events and tournaments. It will also provide a pleasant, relaxed place for spectators and players to meet off court and get together to enjoy a drink and a chat after a game.

These facilities will encourage more people to come to Bourton to play tennis - with many benefits to the health and fitness of the local community. Tennis has never been more important to people's health and well-being than during the pandemic, allowing people to get out on court to exercise and have fun outdoors in a Covid-safe environment.

The British Journal of Sports Medicine cites tennis as a sport that’s good for your body at any age and the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) has published research on the positive impact of the sport on mental as well as physical health.

Tennis is a massively important sport for people’s mental health, especially at a time like this. It’s great for a range of ages and abilities, and the social aspect of it plays a big part in its mental health benefits. Anyone can try it, and it’s such a great way to get outside and get moving."

So please support Bourton Tennis Club to equip its new clubhouse. The Club has been an important sporting asset to the local community for nearly a century. A proper clubhouse with modern facilities will ensure that Club continues to encourage lots more people to play tennis in Bourton-on-the-Water long into the future.

We're making great progress on the new clubhouse - the kitchen and new loo are in and we are counting down to being able to a grand opening and centenary celebration this summer. Thanks to everyone who's donated - please consider giving even a small amount so we can complete the finishing touches inside and out. Every £10 is a big help. Thank you everyone!
