    Story

My name is Sam Dondi-Smith, I am an Occupational Therapist and I believe that technology is one of the ways in which we can improve the care we offer our elders. I have come across a great way for families to be able to visit their loved ones in care homes even when they don't have the time or money to do so - a tele-presence robot.

There is a large amount of evidence that people in care benefit massively from family member visits but sometimes families live away or can not afford to travel the distance to see their family member in a care home. I believe that these robots could be the answer to help solve this problem. They are essentially an iPad on wheels which can be controlled by the 'visitor'. The 'visitor' logs into the robot and can control it from a laptop or smartphone. They are then able to 'walk to' and speak with their relative in the care home or hospital.

Please help me raise this money to purchase one of these robots and to pilot it to improve people's lives in care. This could make a massive difference and will be a first for Kent. If successful I would love to build a network of robots in care homes and hospitals across the country for families to use. Be part of this with me. Thank you.
